Athletics

Athletics are a critical part of the overall education of the child. Our athletic program is an integral part of students’ experience; it lays a foundation for character education and develops important values. All students are encouraged to be involved in our program, which emphasizes participation and teamwork.

Philosophy

The Woods Academy Athletic Program reinforces the goals of the school‘s mission while helping students build character through competitive athletics. The program is for fifth through eighth graders and is designed to develop the following habits of character:

• Commitment to doing your best to improve yourself and your team.

• A Positive Attitude that encourages your teammates through enthusiasm for your sport.

• Respect for your teammates and coaches, opponents, officials and yourself as a student and athlete.

• Sportsmanship that demonstrates an appreciation of the challenge that the opponent provides and commitment to playing hard but fair at all times.

• Responsibility for your own actions and words.

League Play: The Capital Athletic Conference

The Woods Academy is a member of the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC). The CAC has established expectations for players, coaches, officials and spectator behavior to which the Woods Academy and all league schools adhere.

Game schedules are developed by the Athletic Directors of each league school. Athletic Directors work to accommodate the needs of each school‘s master calendar and schedule.
