"We can not make a genius. We can only give students the chance to fulfill their potential to become independent, secure and balanced human beings."
                                                                                    --Maria Montessori

The Woods Academy Montessori Program meets the needs and interests of 3 to 6 year olds. Learning is intrinsically motivating and joyful in the multi-age classroom and prepared environment. There are opportunities for children to lead, teach, interact and learn through collaboration, cooperation and the observation of others. Materials are located at child-level so that students may pursue their own interests at their own pace under the guidance of our dedicated and expert teachers.

Singing, stories, poetry, science and outdoor play augment the Montessori classroom. In addition to activities in Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics and English Language Arts, teachers enrich the classrooms with thematic units that include holidays, seasons and animals.

3and 4 year old children participate in library, music, and physical education during their morning at The Woods. 4 year olds have the option of participating in afour day-a-week full-day program (The Owls) that allows additional time for extended Montessori activities in the afternoon. The Luncher Program for 5 year olds is a full day with time for both individual and small group activities as well as field trips to National Zoo, an art gallery, The Kennedy Center and museums.

In the afternoon, the Lunchers have French, Spanish, music, art, physical education, library and computers.
