Our students’ foundation in technology includes understanding how it works and how to use it to change lives. Our technology supports innovative learning at all ages – from interactive whiteboard projectors in all classrooms, to iPad learning stations in our Montessori Preschool, and one-to-one student devices in Grades 1 through 8.
Using key words such as first, then, next, and finally to retell a story in sequential order facilitates comprehension. The 2nd graders practiced this technique after reading fables, fairy tales, and legends.
The third graders have embarked on a journey of exploration, discovery, creativity and innovation. They may be using Little bits, which are part of a STEAM student set, and they may be young children in grade three at The Woods Academy. However, the thought processes that go into the children’s planning when engaging in the creation of inventions using the Little Bits, are enormous.
What is a tangram? It’s a Chinese puzzle made up of 7 shapes.
Tangrams can teach children about spatial relationships and geometric terms.
The use of tangrams can also develop students’ problem solving skills.
Recently, the eighth grade students traversed the steps of Civil War soldiers at Harpers Ferry, WV, Antietam, MD, and Gettysburg, PA.
It was wonderful to see all the students engaged in this fun and educational experience.
On October 20, the Lower and Upper School French students celebrated French Week which focused on the country of Canada this year.
