The Hallmarks

Of a Woods Education

Daily World Language

From preschool through Grade 8, our students learn French or Spanish, developing a love for languages that they carry to high school and beyond.

Faith life & Community Service

As a Catholic school, the faith development and character education of our children is devoted to enriching students’ lives and preparing them to lead lives of significance. Lessons on faith and values anchor everyday life.

The Arts

Our talented, creative arts faculty cultivates our students’ artistic gifts, engaging their minds, bodies, and spirits through art education that includes music, visual arts, and performing arts.

Montessori Preschool

The Woods Montessori program meets the needs and interests of three to six year olds. Learning is intrinsically motivating and joyful in the multi-age classroom and prepared environment.

Our students’ foundation in technology includes understanding how it works and how to use it to change lives. Our technology supports innovative learning at all ages – from interactive whiteboard projectors in all classrooms, to iPad learning stations in our Montessori Preschool, and one-to-one student devices in Grades 1 through 8.

Our athletics program is a critical part of our children’s education. It provides building blocks in their development while giving them an appreciation for health and fitness as well as habits that will last a lifetime.

Knowledge Inspires Action
Ms. Dosh & Ms. Vassos, 3rd Grade Teachers

We think this culminating pond study unit is a wonderful way for our third graders to end the school year. It is a beautiful way to celebrate life, engage their empathy, learn negotiation skills, and the balance of goods and services. Most important, is the awareness of how the fruits of your labor can benefit someone or something. This supports our school mission of guiding our students to live lives of significance.

Learning to Read
Mrs. Gerber, Director of Montessori

Learning to read is a long process that begins with a newborn brain wired to talk. As parents introduce their infants to their 3-D world with baby talk, singing, reading board books, naming, and reciting rhymes aloud, that brain builds multitudes of neural pathways. We delight in the babble and then in those first words! Our "fantastic, elastic brains" then use visual and language structures to build what Maryanne Wolf calls a "reading brain." We use oral language and phonological awareness skills as a foundation for written language.

The Science of Structures
Mr. Smith, 5th Grade Math & Science Teacher

The Fifth Grade has kicked off the final trimester of the year diving into our “Science of Structures” unit.  Learning about the physics, engineering, and architecture of some of the world’s most famous structures, students partake in hands-on activities, research projects, and 3D printing!

How Do Clouds Work?
Mrs. Phelps & Ms. Camalier, 2nd Grade Teachers

In science, second grade was learning about weather, types of clouds, and the water cycle. What better way to learn in science than to do a fun visual experiment! We asked the scientific question: How do clouds work?

Learning Spanish & Much More through Drama
Sra. Pascale, Spanish Teacher

In our Family Celebrations unit, seventh grade Spanish students acquired not only new vocabulary and teamwork skills, but aspects of Hispanic culture as well. In the accompanying video, they are role playing the celebration of a family birthday.
