Fourth graders spent time this month learning about birds and the types of nests that different birds build. After exploring various nests, fourth-graders were presented with the following engineering challenge: Can you find natural materials and make a bird nest that can hold three eggs?
Students had to think like a bird and determine what kind of nest they could build that would be sturdy and comfortable. They spent time outside collecting natural materials and then got to work building a nest! Students reflected on the following questions:
How well was your nest constructed?
Did it hold three eggs?
What did you learn about construction and engineering?
