This time of year is filled with so many wonderful moments, but it is always important to reflect on what we have and give back to those that are in need.
In early November, the fourth-grade class was issued a challenge! Our goal was to collect enough backpacks for an entire grade of students at our sister school in Kitui, Kenya so that the students would have new bags for the new school year. What a great service project for us!
We started by collecting money to buy backpacks. Then, every student wrote a letter sharing information and also asking questions of their new Kenyan rafikis (friends). The letters were then stuffed into the backpacks. Additionally, students sent a paperback book in each backpack. We're glad we could help them get ready for their new school year. We believe "It just takes ONE" to make a difference in the life of a child! In our case, that means 60 backpacks!
To continue in the spirit of giving, the fourth grade had a present wrapping party at the beginning of December. We dedicated the efforts of the party to help others who are less fortunate. The children were engaged in a clothing collection for the kids at Nyumbani.
Each student brought t-shirts and underwear. These were then wrapped with great care. Each present will be delivered to an orphan at Nyumbani Children’s Home.
