THANK YOU!! To The Woods Community.
On Monday, December 17, the Upper School had the privilege of having Christine Miller, Executive Director of The Alexandria Community Shelter, speak in our Monday Morning chapel. It was a wonderful presentation and she was able to give a personal side to how she got here during her journey. She focused on her concern for people and how this led her to lead a life of significance. Students asked great questions and they were able to internalize the concept of service and helping others during the chat.
Also, we were able to bring up members of the service club and student council to discuss how they have developed ideas to give back to the community. These students were also able to present a check for $1191.45 which was collected from The Woods community during a recent tag day. Christine was shocked by the amount and humbled by the generosity of The Woods Community. She made it a point to say that she will follow up with The Woods as to how the money is being spent and Christine looks forward to visiting the school again to continue the conversation about leading a life of significance.
As a final note, I want to thank all of The Woods community for their efforts raising these funds for The Volunteers of America Chesapeake and The Alexandria Community Shelter. We raised a lot of money and it will be put to good use helping those in the shelter. I am inspired by the generosity and it is a testament to how wonderful it is to belong to this community.
