4th Grade Chinese New Year Celebration

4th Grade Chinese New Year Celebration
Mrs. Carey Hollensteiner, 4th Grade Teacher

The fourth graders are learning about the Chinese New Year. They are reading the realistic fiction book “In the Year of the Boar and Jackie Robinson,” which they also saw the play of in the fall at Imagination Stage.

The Woods Academy 4th grade celebrated the Chinese New Year in class.

Our celebration this week began with a procession around the school holding Chinese dragons they painted in art class. The classrooms were decorated with red decorations including a 6’ dragon! Woods students Max and Asha S. along with their mom prepared special activities and treats to share with the class. Each student received a red envelope with coins for good luck.  Since 2023 is the year of the rabbit, they made origami rabbits  - here is a video if you want to try this yourself:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzxjzBvV9t8

The Woods Academy elementary students celebrated the Chinese New Year in class with arts, food, and more.

They learned how to make Chinese dumplings and ate a sample with chopsticks. They watched a video that explains how the 12 animals of the zodiac were chosen. This week they will read an article and complete a writing prompt on Chinese New Year traditions.

Private school in Bethesda, MD celebrates holidays throughout the year.

They have truly enjoyed learning about the Chinese culture and traditions associated with this special holiday.  Be sure to ask your 4th grader for more details!
