Upper School students in Grades 5 through 8 may participate in interscholastic athletic teams after school. There are three seasons - Fall, Winter, and Spring. Team sports offerings include soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, and lacrosse. We also offer cross country, swimming, golf, tennis, and volleyball clubs. The Woods Academy competes against area schools with similar athletic program philosophies. Most of our games take place in the Maryland and DC area. When applicable, students in Grades 5 & 6 participate on Junior Varsity (JV) Teams and students in Grades 7 & 8 participate on Varsity Teams. All of our coaches are certified in CPR and First Aid and are aware of the signs and symptoms of concussion. We encourage parents to be familiar with these as well. Please review the Heads Up Concussion Fact Sheet for Youth Sports Parents which is available in your Magnus Health SMR (see below for more details).
Required Athletics Forms - Magnus Health SMR
The Woods is moving to an electronic record keeping system to streamline medical records and collect required forms for the 2020-2021 school year. The newly adopted, web-based management system is Magnus Health SMR (Student Medical Record). Magnus will provide you with continuous access to your child’s health record as well as the ability to easily make updates and access, download and upload completed forms. Upper School students who plan to participate in athletics must submit a completed Athletic Participation and Transportation Authorization Form, Upper School Sports Permission Slip, and Concussion Fact Sheet. Forms must be submitted annually prior to each school year. Please access these forms in your Magnus Health SMR (see below).
To access your Magnus Health SMR:
Please Note: In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, families needing extra time to complete paperwork should contact Jeaneen Cavanaugh, School Nurse, at email@example.com.
We highly encourage parents to download the free Magnus Health PHR Mobile App to easily access your child's record. This app allows parent users to simply take a photo of forms with any smartphone and upload them directly into their account.
