BEYOND THE CLASSROOM
At The Woods Academy, we educate the whole child, which involves their academic needs as well as social, emotional, and physical development. This is done through a variety of avenues including,
- Academic Development: Our school provides a well-rounded curriculum that fosters critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Social and Emotional Learning: The Woods Academy’s guidance and counseling classes help children develop self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. We help teach empathy, conflict resolution, and communication skills among other important life lessons.
- Physical Development: Each student has Physical Education twice a week helping to encourage our students to develop healthy habits early on. We also offer recess and outdoor breaks and movement in the classroom, and our Middle School students participate in competitive athletic teams.
- Character Development: Teaching values such as honesty, respect, responsibility, fairness, and compassion through classroom lessons is a core part of our program at The Woods.
- The Arts: Providing opportunities for children to explore and express themselves through art, music, drama, and other creative outlets helps to foster creativity, self-expression, and appreciation for the arts.
- Cultural and Global Awareness: Exposing children to diverse perspectives, cultures, and global issues promotes understanding, tolerance, and respect for others.
- Community Engagement: Involving families and community members in the educational process creates a supportive and enriching learning environment.
- Individualized Support: Recognizing and addressing the unique needs and strengths of each child through differentiated instruction, personalized learning plans, and targeted interventions when necessary. This ensures that every child receives the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
These elements are crucial to the development of a young child, allowing them to grow up to lead a life of significance.
