Building to Lead

The Building to Lead Renovation Walkthrough

Giving New Opportunities and Ideas Space to Grow.

From its founding days, The Woods Academy is a place that celebrates the individuality of every child in a nurturing community with a well-rounded program. From our preschool through the 8th grade, our students are challenged and supported by a caring group of educators, friends, and parents. Students at The Woods discover who they are through a program of excellence, integrated curriculum, personalized attention, and a faith that guides us to serve others along the way.

In 2018, the Board of Trustees and school leadership developed the strategic plan Building to Lead, a vision for the next five years. Built upon our tradition of excellence, this bold vision places our well-rounded students, passionate faculty, and supportive parents at the forefront – where they belong.

As we enter a new decade, the strategic plan calls for an ambitious campaign to advance the academic strength of The Woods by focusing on people and programs and modernizing learning spaces to better equip the 21st century student while also addressing long-needed updates to the facility.

This innovative work will allow The Woods to continue to grow and thrive in the years ahead. Building to Lead will raise funds to support an academic environment that inspires enthusiasm for learning, instills the joy of accomplishment, allows The Woods to adapt with the ever-changing world, and personifies our commitment to community.

This is the first time in more than a decade that The Woods has embarked on a fundraising opportunity of this magnitude. Now is the time to undertake this transformative and visionary work. This is your invitation to join us, with all of your passion and generosity, to prepare The Woods to meet the future.

Welcome to the new and improved Woods Academy Kitchen! This new space will serve an array of purposes from preparing meals every day for our students and allowing an adequate teaching space for Montessori Owls and their teachers to giving our students space to serve the wider community through meal prep donations and more.

The Woods Academy Innovation Lab will spotlight our forward-thinking STEAM curriculum in a unique space with adjustable furniture for all ages and activities. With 3D printers, computers for gaming and coding, robotics, and more, our Innovation Lab will provide a dedicated area for innovation at every age.

The Woods Academy library is often referred to as the heart of our school. Students come together in this space to collaborate on projects, read in a quiet space, or do a research project with a classmate. Renovations for the library will create a signature room for a variety of activities with flexible spaces throughout. The space will have more natural light, dedicated nooks for reading, and areas for circle time in the Lower School portion of the library.

The new Woods library is designed to be one large room with the flexibility of dividing it into three spaces. The Lower School section (pictured here) will have age-appropriate furniture and spaces for reading and other activities, while the Upper School space will have areas for reading, research, and group work.

The Upper School library design allows for our older students to gather together for a project or study by themselves. From moveable tables and lounge-like furniture to individual study stations, our students will have endless opportunities to use the new library.

The renovated library will bring the outdoors inside with floor to ceiling windows and skylights allowing for more natural light in this new space. Windows above the room dividers and into the main hallway give these new spaces a more community feel.

Creating a large flexible world language classroom allows teachers and students space to collaborate and explore the world around us. Updating windows and lighting helps to highlight the special work being down in the classroom.

The world language classrooms will have the opportunity to become one large space for larger activities and celebrations like Mexico Day. With flexible spaces, students have the opportunity for collaborative teaching and learning.

The 4th grade classroom will be updated with new and improved storage allowing for more space for our students, new innovative furniture, and updated technology.

Our youngest Owls will experience updated spaces with new storage and cabinetry, new in-classroom restrooms as well as new technology for the classroom. Refreshing the Montessori classroom will help brighten the rooms allowing kids to explore and learn in a new space.

The main entryway to The Woods Academy will be updated to have a wide ADA-accessible entrance. Updated windows and the new front desk area will allow more natural light to welcome our current families and guests. A new modern design in this space will match the forward-thinking and innovative teaching and learning happenings throughout the school.

Students will be able to explore their school through the new and modern front hallway at The Woods Academy. Curious what's happening in the library? Take a peek inside! The new design of this space will brighten up our students' day with natural light and welcoming paint and wood tones.

The design of the new front hallway brings the new look and feel from the classroom into the hallway. The space will be welcoming and bright for our community members.

For our Montessori students who stay all day, the new extended care room will be able to comfortably fit all our students and their belongings. New organizational cubbies and furniture will allow for more space for playing and learning.

The MPR is the most used room at The Woods! It sees every student for lunch, hosts meetings and presentations, holds some of our most beloved traditions like Santa’s Workshop and the Scholastic Book Fair, allows classmates to gather for chapel - and that’s just to name a few uses! This space will soon be refreshed with a more clean and modern look. We’ll also update the room with technology to help with the acoustics and update the furniture.

Why I Give

The Woods has been a blessing to our family over the years – we have one graduate (2011) and one in the Upper School.  The Building to Lead Campaign is the perfect opportunity to express our gratitude for all The Woods has given us in the past, in the present, and all the extraordinary things The Woods will do for our children in the future.

Why I Give

We are very excited to support the Building to Lead Campaign. The foundation of our children’s educational experience was made possible due to the generosity of those who provided financial support before us and we are ever so grateful. Our family would like to leave our footprint at The Woods by supporting this campaign not only for our children, but also for future Woods students. This is our opportunity to give back. This is the time!

Why I Give

The Blessing during the Graduation Mass was a perfect symbol of how every member of the faculty and staff shares their gifts with our kids. They work hard every day to make the school this wonderful place. Our daughter may not have had every teacher, but they all left a mark on her and our family, and we are grateful. Mr. Powers’ vignettes of each eighth grader  demonstrates how much our children are cared for, how much attention is given to their individuality, and how their contributions to this great community are seen. It reinforces the message of leading a life of significance. We know that who they became at The Woods will travel in all their hearts for many years and will help them grow into who they will be in the future
