Academics at The Woods Academy – a tradition of excellence and learning
The Woods Academy provides an unparalleled private school education for students from age 3 to Grade 8.
Our strong academic program begins with our Montessori preschool and continues through elementary school and middle school. Students gain vital skills in math, reading, technology, writing, and world language, while they improve their ability to solve problems, think critically, and be creative.
We are committed to each student’s development—intellectually, spiritually, and physically— and preparing them for whatever lies ahead. The past two school years, 100% of our graduates were accepted to their first-choice high schools. More than half also received offers of merit-based scholarships, which totaled over $200,000.

Our Montessori Preschool
From birth to around age six, children undergo significant physical and psychological development. We believe all young children should have the opportunity to be creative, inquisitive, and passionate during this crucial period. Following the Montessori philosophy, the 3- to 6-year olds in our half-day and full-day mixed-age classrooms work on foundational concepts through meaningful, hands-on activities. The Woods Academy preschool is one of less than 10 American Montessori Society-accredited programs in Maryland.
Our Faculty
Our dedicated faculty have an average tenure of 10 years, and more than 80 percent hold advanced degrees. They work hard to create trusting environments that enable each student to develop confidence, take risks, and learn according to his or her personal style. Plus, with a student-faculty ratio of 7:1 and smaller classes, our students have a myriad of opportunities for personal attention from—and individual interaction with—their teachers.
