Celebrating Women’s History Month: Grade 5 Students Visit the National Museum of Women in the Arts

This March, the Art teacher, Ms. Branitsky and World Languages teachers; Mme. Jibladze, Sra. Sheehan, and myself, Sra. González had the wonderful opportunity to take our Grade 5 students to the National Museum of Women in the Arts in honor of Women’s History Month. In this enriching experience, students explored remarkable works created by Spanish- and French-speaking women artists such as Frida Khalo, Remedios Varo and Sarah Bernhardt. They analyzed the significance of these works and discussed their historical and cultural impact.

As a follow-up activity, students in Sra. González’s Spanish class selected one of the artworks they saw at the museum and integrated it into their grammar lessons. Each student chose their favorite artwork and described it, reinforcing their Spanish grammar skills while deepening their appreciation for the art. They then presented their descriptions to the class. With these, Grade 5 students fostered both language skills development and cultural appreciation.

This activity not only strengthened students' understanding of Spanish grammar but also highlighted the importance of these incredible artworks and the women who created them.

I am so proud of our students for their analyses and enthusiastic participation in this meaningful activity!

Thank you to our teachers for organizing this experience and to our families for their continued support of our students’ learning!
