Growing in Faith and Courage

Growing in Faith and Courage
Fr. David Spillane, marks a student with ashes during our Ash Wednesday Mass, a moment of reflection and the start of Lent.

We will strive for Chapel Time to be a peaceful time for prayer, reflection, and character building. These past few weeks we have been enjoying the routines in Chapel. We prayed the rosary, and students and teachers with help from Fr. Danny Morrison of Little Flower and Fr. David Spillane, LC, gathered for Eucharistic Adoration in Our Chapel of the Little Flower to practice our faith as a community.

This month of January and February students heard the next edition in the Saints and Virtues series. They learned of the extraordinary life of St. Joseph and his exemplary example of the Theological Virtue of Faith. They heard of the Holy Family's flight from Bethlehem to Egypt, to escape the dangers of King Herod, and that they traveled alone for 300 miles. St. Joseph’s faith in God's purpose made him brave enough to lead his tiny family into the desert and a very dangerous journey. He was not afraid because he knew he was doing something good for his family and obeying God’s plan. Students contemplated the fact that Be Not Afraid (or a variation of this sentiment) is written in the Bible 365 times. Every day of the year, God is telling us to BE NOT AFRAID. Just like St. Joseph - he knew that God will protect his family and everything will be OK. Students are asked these next few months to strive to BE NOT AFRAID. God wants us to be brave, don’t worry, don’t be anxious. Just go for it! Do the hard/weird/new/unsure thing. No matter what happens, God still loves you. He only gives you challenges that He already knows you can do.
