Itchy Witchy

Itchy Witchy

The morning of the 31st was a blur! The kids came into school full of the Halloween spirit and excitement! We quickly put on our costumes, painted faces, and did some last minute preparations until the time had finally come. The kids stepped into the MPR and performed their hearts out! Itchy Witchy was a hit, and we’re so glad you came to see it!

Unbenounced to the students, there were multiple learning opportunities disguised as Halloween antics and fun during our show preparation. The act of memorizing lines and performing roles helped the students better understand the written English language. They learned how to appropriately express the written text through intonation and stress of words according to punctuation and capitalization. In addition, the memorization of lines served as a content comprehension exercise as well as retention of material over time.

Introducing the students to the Performing Arts in the elementary years may awaken a creative spirit in the students and inspire them to pursue a theatrical path in the future. The arts have an amazing way of bringing people out of their comfort zones and exposing a more confident version of themselves!

Itchy Witchy is a rite of passage for Grade 3 students here at The Woods Academy. As much as I’m sure the students are relieved to be done with the lengthy rehearsal days, we’re confident that they will look back on the memories fondly!
