Joyeux Noël in French Class!

Joyeux Noël in French Class!

In Lower School French, we are ending the trimester with some fun Christmas activities! We recently spent time on two different fun “activités de Noël.” The first activity was an online interactive game, involving questions, vocabulary terms, Christmas songs, and even virtually decorating a Christmas tree. The students helped each other answer questions and learned some festive vocabulary: le sapin, Père Noël, les cadeaux, etc.

We have also created “les lettres au Père Noël.” We worked on several toy vocabulary items to know what to ask for from Père Noël. While writing in French can be challenging, the students are always so proud to be able to write in complete sentences. We finished the letters by creating a fun version of Santa Claus.

Students also love a silly tradition during the month of December where a hidden photo of Père Noël is in a different location each day. They are given clues in French, such as “Il est sous le tapis” or “Il est sous une chaise.” Experiencing holiday traditions in another language is one of the greatest ways for students to soak up vocabulary!
