Poetry Cafe

In honor of National Poetry Month, Grade 3 students learned about different types of poetry, rhyme scheme, tone, and figurative language. They were then asked to pick a poem from a collection of classic children's poetry books to memorize and perform with the appropriate rhythm, tone, and expression. To make it a fun and memorable experience, we thought they could perform their selected poems in a cafe scene! The lights were dimmed, breakfast food was served, and the spotlight was given to each student during their performance. We celebrated each other’s performances by snapping our fingers. It was a very relaxed morning for a drama-filled activity.
