Kathy Piwko's Retirement
Dear Woods Community,
As we gear up for an exciting spring here at The Woods, I would like to share some significant news with you all. After 34 years at The Woods, 7th & 8th Grade Language Arts Teacher and High School Placement Coordinator Kathleen Piwko will be retiring at the end of this school year. For as long as anyone can remember, her “sweet, melodious voice and soft, dulcet tones” have danced through the Upper School hallway at The Woods Academy.
While we are delighted for Kathy as she begins a new chapter in her life and beyond thankful for all of her contributions to The Woods community over the decades, we will certainly miss her. However, we are reminded by Dr. Seuss, “Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.” And, smile we will. Kathy has done so much for The Woods to make us smile.
We are fortunate to have talented faculty members already on staff to help fill some of the roles Kathy plays here at The Woods. 7th & 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher and Upper School Dean of Students JP Clubbs will become High School Placement Coordinator. He will hand over the responsibilities of Upper School Dean of Students to 7th & 8th Grade Math teacher Paul Paoletti in order to devote time to High School Placement. We are also in the process of hiring a Language Arts teacher to join our established 7th & 8th Grade team.
In addition, we are making plans to celebrate Kathy for her accomplishments and service to The Woods. Honoring Kathy’s wishes, we will not host a formal community celebration. Therefore, we ask you to join us in showing Kathy our tremendous appreciation in other ways.
First, we encourage you to contribute a memory, a message of best wishes, gratitude, or the like, and/ or photos to the Memory Book which will be presented to her at the end of the school year. Messages and photos can be sent via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or by mail to Jodie Shoemaker at The Woods Academy. To ensure that your contribution is included in the book, it must be submitted by May 21.
We also invite you to make a gift to The Woods Academy in her honor. Your gift will help establish The Kathleen Piwko Merit Scholarship. Please visit woodsacademy.org/give to donate.
Please join me in offering our congratulations and thanks to the renowned Kathy Piwko.
